Online metronome

Run a local metronome with tap tempo, 30–300 BPM, bar accents, meters and beat subdivisions. No account, recording or upload.

Runs in your browser

Set a tempo, or tap the button in time.

Clicks are scheduled against the audio clock for stable timing. The metronome stops when this page is hidden.

A steady practice click

Set a tempo from 30 to 300 BPM or use Tap tempo while following the music. Choose two to twelve beats per bar, add eighth notes, triplets or sixteenth notes, and turn the first-beat accent on or off. The display follows the current beat so it can be used with the sound low.

The click is generated by the Web Audio API. A short JavaScript look-ahead loop places each sound on the audio clock in advance, instead of asking an ordinary page timer to make sound at the exact moment. That avoids most of the drift and jitter caused by rendering work.

Timing and background tabs

Browser audio still depends on the device, operating system and output route, so this is a practice aid rather than a laboratory timing source. Bluetooth speakers and headphones can add audible latency even when the beat spacing is stable.

Browsers deliberately throttle hidden pages. To avoid a stale scheduler resuming mid-bar, the metronome stops when this page is hidden. Return to the page and press Start again.

Nothing is recorded

The click is synthesised on this device. The Tool does not request microphone permission, record your practice, upload audio, or contact a timing service.
